How decluttering saves you money AND improves mental health
How many times have you bought something because you can’t find the original? You come home from food shopping to discover you already have four tins of beans hidden at the back of a cupboard? Bought storage solutions and clear boxes to get organised but can’t remember where you put them? Have no space for new items so have cupboards, wardrobes, drawers and surfaces all overflowing? Does your home make you feel stressed? Embarrassed? Infuriated? Exhausted?
When we get overwhelmed with our homes these are familiar and common issues, you are not alone – I see it every day in my job. Almost all of my clients report to me that there is just too much to juggle to keep track of it all. Many are working, raising children, caring for someone, trying to keep on top of their health, have hobbies, the list goes on. As soon as we reach a tipping point in our homes where the amount of stuff we have is unmanageable you’re then fighting the tide. The good news is that decluttering especially with assistance can get you back in control and more importantly save you money (or even make you some!).
Once your home is clutter free and well organised you’ll know exactly what you have preventing over-buying or duplications. With the correct systems you’ll know where to find items and to where to put them once you’re finished with them, this means items are properly looked after giving them a longer life and saving you time when locating them. Time is money, so all the time you once spent shopping, scrolling inspirational homes on Instagram and desperately trying to locate that thing, can now be spent in whatever way you want; working, spending quality time with family, catching up with friends.
It is very common during a client session that we locate unspent gift cards, loose change (sometimes notes!), missing gifts, important documentation, returns awaiting actioning and all of these are huge wins when decluttering. Suddenly you’ve got money you didn’t know you had and of course I have a system to make sure they don’t go missing once again! There are almost always items that could be sold too – I always encourage the easy route for these so that they don’t hang around for more time than desired but as long as you follow the action plan there is money to be made.
Once your home is clutter free, clear of distractions, has manageable systems in place to maintain and feels calmer your mental health will see an instant improvement. Those bags of stuff lying around are no longer sitting requiring your attention, the to-do list in your mind shrinks to a more manageable size. You’re less likely to feel frustration when shopping as you know what you have and therefore what you really need. A friend wants to pop over for a cuppa – no problem!
If this resonates with you then trust me when I tell you that you’re not alone. I have helped so many clients through the chaos and distraction of a disordered home. I adore helping people achieve calm clutter free spaces and I can absolutely help you too.
